How to Calculate Overtime Pay in Saudi Arabia
Saudi overtime pay is not always a simple 150% of one salary figure. The official formula combines the ordinary hourly wage with an additional 50% of the basic hourly wage. This guide breaks the calculation into clear steps.

Saudi overtime formula
Overtime hourly pay = ordinary hourly wage + 50% of the basic hourly wage
What figures do you need?
Basic monthly salary
The basic wage before regular allowances.
Regular allowances
Regular wage components used to estimate the ordinary hourly wage.
Overtime hours
The number of qualifying additional hours to calculate.
Step-by-step calculation
1. Find the ordinary hourly wage
Add the basic salary and regular allowances, then divide the monthly wage by 240 hours (30 days × 8 hours), which is the calculator's displayed conversion assumption.
2. Find 50% of the basic hourly wage
Divide the basic monthly salary by 240, then multiply that hourly figure by 50%.
3. Calculate the total
Add the two hourly amounts, then multiply the result by the number of overtime hours.
Worked example: SAR 6,000 basic salary, SAR 2,000 allowances, 10 hours
- Ordinary hourly wage: (SAR 6,000 + SAR 2,000) ÷ 240 = SAR 33.33
- Basic hourly wage: SAR 6,000 ÷ 240 = SAR 25.00
- 50% of basic hourly wage: SAR 25.00 × 50% = SAR 12.50
- Overtime hourly pay: SAR 33.33 + SAR 12.50 = SAR 45.83
- Estimated pay for 10 overtime hours: SAR 45.83 × 10 = SAR 458.33
Public holidays and qualifying hours
Official guidance treats work during holidays and Eids as overtime. Whether a particular shift legally qualifies can depend on the facts, records, and current rules; this guide does not decide disputed eligibility.
